Sorry...no more free guns

Well, the free gun offer is finally over....after all of these years. There may be no reason to have any links to Front Sight. That's what this blog started out in the beginning several years ago, as a link for the free gun.

I have some shooting videos on YouTube listed under AstroCavman if you wish to view them?

Take care.....John

8001.5 miles of fun

I covered 15 states driving and stepped into one additional state with Stumpy. 8001.5 miles total driving across the US for a three week adventure.

I met some interesting people along the way. Like Bill and Jan Johnson in NV while I was looking for some ghost towns. I got a history lesson on how Treasure City, NV was founded. You can check out Bill's blog at:
http://ourfourwheelcamper.blogspot.com/ They drive that truck everywhere!

I did some Geocaching along the way. I camped every night except one where I stayed at my nephew's home on Golden, CO. Thanks y'all Balls for the dinner and the visit!

I drove from Pahrump to Indian Springs, NV via the Wheeler Pass Road. I talked to a BLM officer down near Indian Springs and he told me he had shredded a set of tires going up the Wheeled Pass Road the previous month. It was low range, first gear most of the way down to Indian Springs. It was a fun and challenging drive.

I drove from Quemado, NM to St. John's, AZ via NM 601, NM Catron Co. Road A001 and AZ CR 6040. I saw no home dwellings or other vehicals until almost into the St. John's city limits. It was a 50 mile journey in some wonderful country. I drove through a 50 foot diameter dirt devil and got mooed at from a bovine. I stopped to photograph Zuni Salt Lake. Search N34 26.94 W108 46.14 on Google Earth to see the lake. Zoom out to see what the route and the country side was like.

One of the highlights of the trip was a spring with a pool of 100 degree water South of Arco, ID. I never found the Geocache but the dip was divine!
Photographed a two headed fly in Arco, ID. Go ahead. Tell me nuclear energy is safe!

I got to shoot in a Glock Match in Missoula, MT. Went up on top of Pike's Peak twice. Found a couple of Geocaches up there. There were the sand dunes in CO that were amazing to see. A cool 61 degree dip in Santa Rosa, NM at the spring. Drove the Rampart Range Road out of The Garden of The Gods, CO to see where it went. Got to camp on the RR road again. Stopped by the VLA in NM for some photos.

My goal now to to see what out of way places I may find on unimproved roads in the Eastern US.

Trip

Well, the planning of my vacation is in the works. I will be stopping by Front Sight in NV for the First Family July 4th celebration. This will be my first time for this event. I'm looking forward to it. Just wish they would send the info real soon.

This will be a driving across the country vacation, camping along the way.
Because the gas prices will be around $5 a gallon or more, I'm leaving the truck camper at home. I'll miss sleeping in my Select Comfort bed. I'll need all of the MPGs I can get. I'm thinking that I'll do 7000+ miles round trip?

Mr. Stumpy will be with me and we will be Geocaching along the way.

I'm not signed up for any courses at Front Sight, but if they offer free open ranges, I'll be ready for some range time! I'd like to try and see if I can hit a target at 100 yards with a Glock 20SF?
Maybe the ropes tower will be open for some fun too?

There will be many stops along my trip route for photo ops.

Future gas prices

Take it to heart that gas prices will get worse as we head towards $150-200 a barrel of oil by the end of this year.
Go out and buy six months of food now before the prices go through the roof.
All of this info brought to light by Lindsey Williams.....again.

As far as I can tell, the free gun offer is still going on at Front Sight for $1499 for the five days of training and all of the goodies with the XD pistol. Click on the button on the left side.

I'm looking at trying to get out there sometime this year. Not by the airlines cause I ain't putting up with the airport crap. I'd be driving there. I'd like to attend the First Family Reunion as I have never attended before. I might like to do the Ropes course for a change. They don't use the SRTs that cavers use. Big suck factor there!
