I covered 15 states driving and stepped into one additional state with Stumpy. 8001.5 miles total driving across the US for a three week adventure.
I met some interesting people along the way. Like Bill and Jan Johnson in NV while I was looking for some ghost towns. I got a history lesson on how Treasure City, NV was founded. You can check out Bill's blog at:
http://ourfourwheelcamper.blogspot.com/ They drive that truck everywhere!
I did some Geocaching along the way. I camped every night except one where I stayed at my nephew's home on Golden, CO. Thanks y'all Balls for the dinner and the visit!
I drove from Pahrump to Indian Springs, NV via the Wheeler Pass Road. I talked to a BLM officer down near Indian Springs and he told me he had shredded a set of tires going up the Wheeled Pass Road the previous month. It was low range, first gear most of the way down to Indian Springs. It was a fun and challenging drive.
I drove from Quemado, NM to St. John's, AZ via NM 601, NM Catron Co. Road A001 and AZ CR 6040. I saw no home dwellings or other vehicals until almost into the St. John's city limits. It was a 50 mile journey in some wonderful country. I drove through a 50 foot diameter dirt devil and got mooed at from a bovine. I stopped to photograph Zuni Salt Lake. Search N34 26.94 W108 46.14 on Google Earth to see the lake. Zoom out to see what the route and the country side was like.
One of the highlights of the trip was a spring with a pool of 100 degree water South of Arco, ID. I never found the Geocache but the dip was divine!
Photographed a two headed fly in Arco, ID. Go ahead. Tell me nuclear energy is safe!
I got to shoot in a Glock Match in Missoula, MT. Went up on top of Pike's Peak twice. Found a couple of Geocaches up there. There were the sand dunes in CO that were amazing to see. A cool 61 degree dip in Santa Rosa, NM at the spring. Drove the Rampart Range Road out of The Garden of The Gods, CO to see where it went. Got to camp on the RR road again. Stopped by the VLA in NM for some photos.
My goal now to to see what out of way places I may find on unimproved roads in the Eastern US.
